What are the differences between QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) and their predecessor, QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds?
They add improved call quality via AI-based background noise suppression, wireless charging, better ActiveSense (adaptive noise cancellation) tech, case battery level shown in the app, and an option to disable touch controls via the Bose app.
What is ActiveSense technology and how has it been updated?
ActiveSense is an adaptive Aware Mode that detects loud environmental sounds and adjusts noise cancellation accordingly depending on the loudness and duration, so interruptions (like traffic or loud appliances) are handled more smoothly. The update makes changes in cancellation less noticeable, giving a smoother experience.
What is Bose Immersive Audio?
Immersive Audio lets you hear audio as though sound is coming from beyond the earbuds, giving a wider and more natural sound stage to the sides and front, like sitting between speakers rather than inside your head.
What is CustomTune technology and how does it work?
CustomTune calibrates the audio output based on your ear shape. When you turn on the earbuds, while wearing them, they play a calibration tone (as the welcome chime), measure how your ear modifies that sound, and then adjust the audio to give a more balanced/extreme-sound that’s tailored to you.
How is the noise cancellation achieved?
Through both passive and active methods. Passive comes from the earbud design and silicone eartips providing a physical seal. Active comes from microphones inside/outside the earbuds detecting ambient sound and generating opposite signals to cancel them.
What are the controls on these earbuds?
When listening to audio: swipe up/down for volume; tap once to play/pause; double tap to skip forward; triple tap to skip back; press and hold to toggle through listening modes (default shortcut cycles through Quiet, Aware, Immersion). For phone calls: swipe up/down for volume; tap once to accept a call (or to accept a second call while on another), double tap to decline/end a call.
How do I know if the eartips and stability bands fit well?
Fit is critical. The Bose app helps you try out different eartips/stability bands, then there’s an Earbud Seal Test in settings to verify you have a good seal, which affects audio and noise cancelling performance.
What if none of the provided tips/bands fit my ears?
There are extra sizes outside the included set: Extra-Small / Extra-Large eartips and stability bands sizes 0 and 4 are available online or via Bose Customer Service.
Can I use only one earbud?
Yes. Either left or right can be used alone for audio or calls. But noise cancelling works best when both are used together.
